PBS North Carolina Presents New Season of 'Side by Side with Nido Qubein'

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 9/12/2024 — PBS North Carolina announces a new season of Side by Side with Nido Qubein. Every week, host Nido Qubein speaks with an influential thinker in an intimate conversation about their life’s journey. The new season premieres Tuesday, October 1, at 7 PM, on PBS NC as well as online and on the PBS app.
“Side by Side celebrates innovators who have made a tremendous impact in their fields and beyond,” says Dr. Nido Qubein, president of High Point University. “I believe that PBS NC viewers will be captivated when our guests share how they’ve defied expectations on their paths to success.”
This season, Side by Side will include interviews with entrepreneurs Brad Martin, Glenn Stearns (Undercover Billionaire) and Scott Baxter and pastor Chris Hodges. In previous seasons, Dr. Qubein has interviewed guests as diverse as Apple Computer cofounder Steve Wozniak, Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon (North Carolina Central University), chef Vivian Howard and designer Alexander Julian.
“The guests on Side by Side are accomplished, personable and from very varied walks of life,” says Laura Kieler, PBS North Carolina’s Chief Marketing and Chief Content Officer. “They may have encountered obstacles while following their passions, yet they’ve all found ways to persevere. PBS North Carolina believes their success stories will inspire viewers to reflect on what’s possible in their own lives.”

Episode 1: Brad Martin, Chairman of RBM Ventures, Philanthropist
Premieres Tuesday, October 1, 7 PM
Brad Martin shares his journey, from being the youngest person elected to the Tennessee legislature to his successful career as an entrepreneur. He also discusses his role as interim president of the University of Memphis.
Episode 2: Chris Hodges, Founder/Sr. Pastor of Church of the Highlands
Premieres Tuesday, October 8, 7 PM
Chris Hodges experienced panic attacks and depression in his early years but later found meaning as a youth pastor. Today, he leads the Church of the Highlands, one of the largest churches in the United States.
Episode 3: Glenn Stearns, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist
Premieres Tuesday, October 15, 7 PM
After struggling in his early education, Glenn Stearns eventually became the first in his family to graduate college. In this interview, he describes how he made a name for himself in the financial services industry and developed the show Undercover Billionaire.
Episode 4: Scott Baxter, CEO and Chairman of Kontoor Brands
Premieres Tuesday, October 22, 7 PM
After turning down an opportunity with the Secret Service, Scott Baxter is now a self-proclaimed denim evangelist. He serves as president, CEO and chair of the board of Kontoor, the home of Wrangler and Lee denim brands.

Nido Qubein immigrated to the United States as a teen in search of a college education. He supported himself through college, attending Mount Olive College, then High Point University to receive his bachelor’s degree and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for graduate studies. His entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic led him to a variety of business ventures and leadership positions with Truist Financial Corporation, La-Z Boy Corporation and Great Harvest Bread Company. Since 2005, he has served as the president of High Point University. Dr. Qubein is the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Daughters of the American Revolution Americanism Award and was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans.
