The Foundation for PBS North Carolina Welcomes Three New Board Members


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 5/29/2024 — The Foundation for PBS North Carolina recently appointed three new members to its board: Annie McLeod Jenkins of Winston-Salem, Marcus Kimbrough of Charlotte and Dr. Bobbie Richardson of Louisburg. Their leadership and professional background will be a vital resource to PBS North Carolina and its mission to educate, inform, entertain and inspire the people of North Carolina.
The Foundation for PBS North Carolina is overseen by a board of directors and is responsible for raising funds to advance, promote and support PBS North Carolina’s public service mission. Funds that are raised by the foundation are invested and used to help PBS North Carolina develop, produce and expand its local and national broadcast content as well as grow its community-based educational programs.
Funds raised by the foundation also allow PBS North Carolina to provide the best of PBS and other national and international noncommercial programs to viewers across the state and beyond. In addition, they help to support original content about science and technology, public affairs, history, culture and North Carolina–focused stories as well as emergency services on air, online and in person.
Annie McLeod Jenkins, Marcus Kimbrough and Dr. Bobbie Richardson began serving on the foundation on April 1, 2024.
Annie McLeod Jenkins of Winston-Salem worked for Salem College as an admissions officer with forays into event planning, donor research and volunteer coordination. For three years, she was the PR/media contact for the Fiddler’s Grove Old Time and Bluegrass Festival in Union Grove. She has held a variety of volunteer positions with local and regional organizations, including the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, the Winston-Salem Junior League, Salem College Alumnae Association (board chair), the Salem Academy and College Board of Visitors and Carolina Music Ways (board chair). Jenkins received a BA in English and history from Salem College and an MAT from Duke University.
Marcus Kimbrough of Charlotte has over 30 years of sales, marketing and operations experience, and has worked with various companies, including Kraft, Campbell Soup Company, Kimberly-Clark, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and the American Cancer Society. Kimbrough currently serves as a board member with The Arts Empowerment Project, Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, Stratford Richardson YMCA, Classroom Central and Wayfinders. As past president of the Rhodes College Alumni Association, he helped shape Rhodes into a more service-oriented institution. He currently sits on its Board of Trustees. Kimbrough received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Rhodes College and an MBA from Xavier University (Ohio).
Dr. Bobbie Richardson of Louisburg was a legislator of NC District 7, where she served portions of Franklin and Nash Counties. She was the Democratic Party Whip and a member of Women in Government representing NC and the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women. Dr. Richardson retired with 35 years of experience with the NC Public School System. She serves on the boards of the Golden Leaf Foundation and the Louisburg College and is a committee member for the Burroughs Wellcome Fund for STEAM education. She has received numerous honors, including the President Volunteer Achievement Award, the Omega Psi Phi Citizen of the Year and the Martin Luther King Award. Currently, she is the chair of the Franklin County Board of Elections. Dr. Richardson earned a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Education from North Carolina Central University and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from UNC-Chapel Hill.
