Bird Banding Can Help Scientists Understand Why Birds Numbers are Falling

It's early, but if you love bird watching and want to plan ahead, think about visiting Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve near Southern Pines.

Every fall, hundreds of bird watchers as well as scientists visit the area to admire some of the 160 bird species that visit.

Bird populations are falling across the U.S. and around the world, and researchers are trying to figure out why. Banding some of the birds that visit the preserve may help answer the question.
