A Message from David Crabtree, CEO of PBS North Carolina

David Crabtree, CEO of PBS North Carolina

Dear Friends,

PBS North Carolina has been the people’s television station of our state for 70 years. Today, we are at a crossroads that will shape the future of public media in our state. As a valued member of our community, I’m asking for your help to support our continued service.

In April, the North Carolina Senate proposed cutting $4 million from our annual state funding. This proposed cut would be deeply impactful.

Essential services at risk include:

  • Towers that provide infrastructure first responders depend on for life-saving communications both day-to-day and in times of natural disasters, like Hurricane Helene.
  • Educational programming and resources for parents, caregivers and teachers supporting our children’s preparedness to learn.
  • Over 3,100 hours of locally produced content featuring powerful, homegrown stories only we are positioned to tell.

Additionally, the White House is asking Congress to eliminate previously appropriated funding for public broadcasting. This is framed as defunding PBS at the national level, yet it hits home as this would take vital funding away from PBS North Carolina.

Your support is the backbone of our ability to serve this great state we call home. It sends a clear message: North Carolinians believe in public media.

We need your support now more than ever to ensure the next 70 years of PBS North Carolina’s quality programming and public service. Please consider the following ways to help:

With commitment and gratitude,

David Crabtree
CEO and General Manager, PBS North Carolina
