PBS Is Not Shutting Down: What’s Really Happening

We’ve seen headlines over the past few days stating that PBS has shut down. This is false.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting recently voted to dissolve, but PBS and PBS KIDS aren’t going anywhere.

PBS programming is delivered to the American people by local stations—and we’re proud to be yours. PBS North Carolina is still here, still strong and poised to serve North Carolinians for generations to come.

While the Corporation for Public Broadcasting may be closing its doors, PBS North Carolina endures. We remain strong, bringing you the trusted programming you love and maintaining the public safety infrastructure you depend on. To sustain this work, we need your support.

The best way to support PBS North Carolina today is to become a member and join countless “Viewers Like You” who’ve made PBS the most trusted institution in public media for 22 consecutive years—and PBS KIDS the most trusted educational media brand in America. Your membership makes this possible, helps keep your neighbors safe with critical information during emergencies, and even gives you access to PBS NC Passport, putting over 6,000 hours of dramas, documentaries, and more right at your fingertips.

As we continue to show up in the community, we ask for your help spreading the word to friends and family that PBS is here to stay. Together, we can ensure generations to come will be able to depend on PBS North Carolina, as well.

PBS NC is free to watch — but not free to produce.

Members keep public media free and accessible for all North Carolinians.
