Fall Brings Thrilling Mysteries to PBS

From L-R: Terence Maynard as DCI Paul and Goodwin Bronagh Waugh as DI Carol Farman in Ridley, Lesley Manville as Susan Ryeland in Moonflower Murders and Marc Warren as Piet Van der Valk in Van der Valk.

This fall on PBS NC, mysteries unfold and secrets are revealed. Moonflower Murders, the highly anticipated follow-up to Magpie Murders, premieres this September. If the first series hooked you, you'll be thrilled to dive back into Susan Ryeland's world. She's left behind her serene life in Crete to solve the mystery of a missing woman and a murder connected to a novel by her former author. The layers of intrigue in this series are seriously compelling, and it's perfect for cozy nights. Now might also be a good time to reread the book to prepare you for Lesley Manville's return as Susan.

As I rewatch Ridley's first season, my excitement is building for the second season, coming soon. Marked by complex characters and dark, twisty cases, the series follows Alex Ridley and DI Carol Farman as they navigate some seriously intense investigations. This season brings complexity and danger to your screen, from jewelry heists gone wrong to the mystery of a body found in a hollow tree.

And don't miss the return of Van der Valk! The team is back, taking on Amsterdam's criminal underworld with the gritty, no-nonsense approach that makes this show so addictive. If you're into smart, stylish crime dramas with a European flair, this one's for you.

So, grab your favorite blanket and get ready for a season of suspense and drama you won't want to miss on PBS NC and the PBS app

Moonflower Murders

The second of Anthony Horowitz’s adaptation of his own bestselling Susan Ryeland/Atticus Pünd series, Moonflower Murders picks up in the aftermath of Magpie Murder’s riveting finale, as book editor-turned-sleuth (turned hotelier) Susan Ryeland is living in Crete with her longtime boyfriend, Andreas. But her idyll is disturbed by the shadow of a murder committed at a British country hotel eight years ago. Alan Conway, Susan’s prima donna former author, visited the hotel and wrote a novel based on what happened there—a novel that later led Cecily Treherne, who helps run the hotel, to believe that the wrong man is behind bars. Now Cecily has disappeared. Can Susan uncover the secret hidden in the book and find Cecily before it’s too late?
