Romantic Dramas to Watch This Valentine’s Day

Love fills the air this Valentine’s Day, and PBS brings romance to life with period dramas full of unforgettable moments. From grand estates to windswept coastlines, these stories follow lovers exploring their desires and navigating the obstacles that stand in their way.
PBS’s 2009 dramatization of Wuthering Heights and Sisi: Austrian Empress both tell tales of love that defies expectation, while The Forsyte Saga and Miss Austen explore family devotion and the choices that shape our lives. Sanditon presents a discovery of romance and new beginnings.
February also brings the premiere of The Puzzle Lady and a new season of Call the Midwife, streaming on the PBS app with PBS NC Passport.
Sanditon is based on Jane Austen’s final and unfinished novel, and tells the story of Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), a spirited and somewhat impulsive young woman who travels from her rural English home to an up-and-coming seaside resort town to reinvent herself.
Watch Sanditon, streaming on the PBS app from February 14 to March 14. After March 14, PBS NC Passport members can watch all three seasons anytime.
In the 2009 PBS dramatization, the fiery romance of Heathcliff and Cathy reignites in another thrilling adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic love story. The mysterious gypsy boy Heathcliff, adopted by the Earnshaw family, discovers his soulmate in his stepsister, Cathy. But as a man unable to have the love of his life, he seeks vengeance against anyone who comes between them.

Based on the classic novels by John Galsworthy, The Forsyte Saga is a compelling drama of love, adultery, obsession, power and money, spanning three generations at the turn of the 20th century. On the surface, the Forsytes are the ultimate powerful Victorian family—superior, arrogant, and confident—but underneath this imposing veneer lies a festering core of unhappy and brutal relationships.
